“I Needed To Take Care Of My State Association”- Mahim Verma:
Since taking control of his state party, Uttarakhand’s Cricket Association as its director, Mahim Verma has tendered his resignation from the post of BCCI vice-president.
Verma has checked the development of media despite being a mere formality as he battled the state body elections and his team came to power last month.
“I wanted to take care of my state-owned company that was not running well. So that I sent my resignation to CEO Rahul Johri. I am thinking that it would be accepted because senior office-bearers are in the loop,” Verma informed media on Monday.
The constitution of the BCCI does mandate that one person should not occupy two roles concurrently at the national and state level. That is why Verma had resigned.
The BCCI Vice-President Is An Ornamental Position:
“I’ve already told Secretary Jay Shah about my compulsions. If I hadn’t returned and taken over the state body, the organization would have been in a mess. That’s why I contested the election,” he said.
As per the BCCI law, to fill the vacant post a special meeting must be held in 45 days. However, as the country is in lockdown, it will be difficult for the board to sustain the prescribed timeline to conduct a Special General Meeting.
“We are heading towards a second lockdown in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. And how can we even talk about getting a Special General Meeting in 45 days? Clearly, the vacancy will be filled up in compliance with the constitutional norms but only after things have settled,” a senior BCCI official told to media.
There is a little clarification as of now as to who are the potential contenders for the position of vice-president.
The position of BCCI vice president role is more decorative than the chairman, treasurer, and secretary, who has the authority to make policy decisions.
