Jayawardene Confirms Rohit’s Availability For Next IPL Match

Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out for the opening match of the 2nd phase of the IPL due to a knee niggle he had sustained during the recent England tour, Mumbai Indians started well against CSK and were in the commanding position but Ruturaj Gaikwad’s inning was the highlight of the CSK’s batting side. They got to a fighting total and then bowlers did their job to take MS Dhoni’s lead side on the top of the table, Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene has said that regular captain Rohit Sharma needed some time to recover from the injury and will be available for MI’s next game versus KKR.

Rohit was batting and doing his running, after coming back from the UK, we probably felt he needed extra few days so he should be fine to play the next game. Hardik was training, had a niggle, so precaution and giving him extra days, not nothing serious,Jayawardene said during a virtual post-match conference.

Jayawardene Opined That Someone Should Have Taken The Responsibility To Bat Till The End

Well, I think the pitch was not doing much, to be honest, in the second innings, the wicket was pretty good. The odd one sat up a little. I agree we probably gave a couple of soft dismissals, we probably needed someone to take responsibility and bat through the innings which we did not do. That was the difference with CSK with Ruturaj Gaikwad doing that for them,Jayawardene added.

Not really, I mean we struggled in Chennai in the first half as we did not get used to the conditions. Here also, you know, it was not the easiest wicket, but probably needed some application. I put it down to game awareness and taking responsibility. The application out there is something we need to work on”, he added.

Saurabh Tiwary scored a 50 run knock for MI but it was down the drain as he did not get any help from the non-striker end. Chennai Super Kings secured an easy win by 20 runs to go on top of the table as they near the qualification.

Mumbai Indians (MI) will next lock horns versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday.
