Since the times when the nations kept separate cricket teams, India and Pakistan rivalries are common. Javed Miandad, a former batman from Pakistan, played excellent innings in the late 1970s including the mid-1990s. Recently, the Pakistan legendary batsman spoke about India’s Pakistan tour in 1978-79 when Zaheer Abbas scored heavily with Miandad and another Pakistani legend.
Recalling the famous Test Series, Javed Miandad said that the power of India was its spinners. He said the Indian spinners were doing well across the globe. However, during the Pakistan tour, BS Chandrasekhar, Bishan Singh Bedi, and Erapalli Prasanna were taken to cleaners.
Javed Miandad recalls the partnership with Zaheer Abbas
“The power of India was its spinners … Chandrasekhar, Beda, Prasanna … And they have done a great job around the world, but they were taken to the cleaners when they came here (Pakistan). For so many runs, our players robbed them, “Miandad told in his youtube channel.
Miandad also recalled how he helped Zaheer Abbas in batting while they were having a partnership.
“I remember Chandrasekhar gave Zaheer Bhai some trouble. Then he said, ‘Javed, take it for me, please.’ I said yes. In the meantime, Zaheer Bhai took many runs off Bedi sahib and Prasanna from the other ends, “says Miandad.
The former captain of Pakistan also said that Zaheer Abbas asked later to allow him to bat Bedi against and Prasanna.
“I said, ‘Then let me take some runs, Zaheer Bhai, please, and I’m going to use my foot to them. Here I am stuck. I am stuck here. I’m not going to take the final ball off a single, “he said.
Zaheer Abbas scored 176 in the first test of the series and Miandad scored 154. The match came to a close. The tide changed during the second test, while Abbas recorded a splendid double century. Pakistan took eight wickets for this match. In the third and last test, Javed followed with a splendid century. Yet again Pakistan took eight wickets for that match. The home team was a 2-0 winner.
Chandrasekhar took a total of 8 wickets in this series at an average of 48.12, while Bedi managed a total of 6 wickets at an average of 74.83. In the two matches, Prasanna was able to pick just two wickets on an average of 125.50.
