India’s options to replace Shubman Gill 1st Test against Australia

With mere a few days left to the start of the first BGT Test in Perth, India faced an alarming news that their reliable top-order batter had suffered an injury and would miss the opening test of the five-match series.  Let’s look at at Who will replace Injured Shubman Gill in 1st Test?

Shubman Gill, who played a key role in India’s historic Gabba victory in 2021, suffered a fracture in his left thumb, which ruled him out of the opening clash.

It is still unclear whether India’s regular captain, Rohit Sharma, will play the first test or not. Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh were blessed with a baby boy, their second child – on Friday.

Veteran KL Rahul was considered as Rohit’s potential replacement for the Perth Test. Unfortunately, Rahul has also been hit on his elbow while batting during an intra-squad game. However, the senior batter recovered in time and was spotted batting at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) Ground on Sunday, providing a major boost to team India.

As per the latest development, Devdutt Padikkal has been asked to remain in Australia, but it is uncertain whether he will be included into the main squad or the reserves. Padikkal was part of India A that played two games ahead against Australia A recently. He batted in all four innings and scored – 36, 28, 88, 1, respectively.
