Afghanistan cricketer, Rashid Khan has stated that understanding each other’s traditions and cultures benefits in the growth of mutual respect. The 23-year-old flashed back to the 1st half of the 2021 IPL when he and his SRH mates David Warner and Kane Williamson participated in Ramadan together.
The Nangarhar boy went popular after sharing a video of him fasting with his SRH teammates. The youngster expressed his admiration for the two overseas players who showed an interest in fasting. Rashid added that Warner and Williamson approached him and asked sehri.
It’s important to know each other’s traditions and cultures: Rashid
“Those days when Ramadan was on, we were fasting and playing. David Warner and Kane Williamson said, it’s pretty hard to fast and play, it’s a tough job. They wanted to fast but on an off day. They came for sehri at around 3 am,” Rashid told.
“It was so good to see them fasting with us, to understand our feelings. When there was one hour left [before breaking the fast in the evening], I remember sitting by the poolside with Williamson, who was like: “We haven’t played cricket, we haven’t done anything, we have just been at the hotel, but it is so difficult to eat nothing,” he stated.
“I loved the way they came up and said we want to fast with you, we want to know the feelings. It made me so happy. I have so much respect for both of them. It’s important to know each other’s traditions and cultures. It automatically inculcates further respect,” Rashid added.
Rashid also believes that T20 leagues throughout the world bring various cultures together, letting players understand better one another.
In the 2021 IPL, Rashid was the outstanding bowler for the SRH. The leg-spinner took 18 wickets in 14 matches, making him the Orange Army’s highest wicket-taker.
Having 14 wickets, Jason Holder, who featured the most matches in the 2nd leg of the IPL 2021, was the 2nd-highest wicket-taker. Despite finishing in last place, the Sunrisers were unable to qualify for the playoffs.
