Cricket Scotland Implementing Paid Contracts for Women Cricketers

New Developments in Women’s Cricket

Big move from the Ireland Cricket Board for Women’s cricket in providing better opportunities in terms of contracts

In a move that Cricket Scotland claimed would build on the introduction of paying equal match fees to the men’s and women’s team players, several players would be able to devote more time to practicing and training, and the women’s game would begin to take on fully professional status.

The Scotland Cricket Board said in a statement that “paid contracts would be provided for the first time to players on the women’s international squad.” On Thursday, cricket Scotland made a number of modifications to their long-term success strategies in an effort to create a sustainable governing body in the coming years.

Scotland Cricket Board Comments

The Scotland Cricket Board in a statement stated that “This builds on the move to pay equal match fees to the men’s and women’s players introduced in 2021 and will enable a number of players to devote more time to training and practice and is a start to putting the women’s game onto a fully professional footing.”

This was a “watershed moment for the sport of cricket in Scotland,” according to Anjan Luthra, Chair of Cricket Scotland.

She further stated that “The investment announced today into the women’s game is an important building block in our desire to make cricket in Scotland a fully inclusive sport where there is no place for racism, discrimination or inequalities. We have an opportunity to create a bold new vision for our Scottish cricket and we are committed to doing so by driving positive change at every level within our sport.” (Source- ICC)

New Beginnings for Cricket Scotland

Following Majid Haq’s horrific charges of racism against the board and administration in 2021, Scottish Cricket was judged to be “institutionally racist in an independent assessment” in July 2022. A few days later, the entire cricket board announced its resignation in an effort to revamp and modernize the game’s entire system. In the near future, a more sustainable governing body was promised in the most recent announcement.

Talking about the new beginnings the Scotland cricket board stated “The new measures will underpin long-term success for the international teams and deliver a more sustainable governing body in the years ahead. The changes are required to refocus the governing body’s priorities and to establish a strong financial base from which to launch an ambitious new strategy for the sport in the coming months.”

Positive Start for Scotland Women Cricketers

This a positive move for Scotland women as they now get security for playing cricket in terms of contracts where women cricketers will be paid as per the contracts and this gives the opportunity in developing or attracting more women cricketers towards the sport.
