ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifiers: Zimbabwe Beats Scotland by 5 Wickets to Qualify for Super 12

ZIM Vs SCOT Match Highlights

The Qualifiers are done and dusted. The last match of phase 1 ended with Zimbabwe winning against Scotland to qualify for Super12. Zimbabwe beat the Scots by impressive 5 wickets. They chased down the target of 133 within overs. Sikandar Raza is the Player of the Match. Let us look at ZIM Vs SCOT Match Highlights in detail.

Zimbabwe’s Victory Chase

Chakabva and Madhevere were dismissed in the opening two overs of their 133-run chase, giving the Scots a fright. Additionally, Sean Williams fell carelessly, holing out to a deep square leg. But two seasoned batsmen who have been the cornerstone of Zimbabwe cricket for the past ten or so years once again came to the rescue.

After a rocky beginning, Sikandar Raza and Sean Ervine stabilised the situation. Raza scored whenever it was practical while Ervine supported the innings. The Scottish spinners were unable to give the pursuing side the same push as Zimbabwe provided in their middle overs, which allowed them to get an early start.

Ervine also fell despite scoring 50 runs, and Raza lost after a pivotal cameo of 40 runs. However, the equation at that point was greatly in Zimbabwe’s favor, and the young men Shumba and Burl brought them home.

Scotland Struggle in 1st Innings

Scotland fought its way to 132. There were no sixes throughout the innings. It occurred for the first time during this World Cup. Munsey made a fifty, but like the rest, he played slowly. The Zimbabwean bowlers’ straight lines were a challenge for the hitters. The three seamers were enhanced by the spinners, and Craig Ervine did not even need to utilize Luke Jongwe, his sixth bowling option. Instead, he granted Madhevere a surplus.

Among the bowlers, Chatara and Raza were the bowlers of the day. Zimbabwe’s fielding was also excellent since they managed to hold onto some deft catches. Scotland never made any attempt to increase the pace or pursue the bowling.

Scotland will think back on their batting performance today; while they may have fallen 10-15 runs short, they still gave Zimbabwe a serious fight. Sadly, their campaign comes to an end today, but Zimbabwe continues to play in the Super 12

What Captains Said:

Sean Ervine the winning captain of Zimbabwe talked about the importance of the win for the team. He said, “I don’t think anyone can explain what this means. To have the whole country behind us for the last week, it’s wonderful to repay their support. The support for us has been special, looking forward to travelling around Australia and having this kind of support.”

Richie Berrington, the Scotland captain talked about today’s loss. He said, “I felt we were 25-30 runs short with the bat. With a bit more runs on this surface, we could have made it very tough. Disappointing we couldn’t get that momentum. We can be proud of some of the performances we have put in, a lot of positives to take back.
