Wasim Jaffer, a former opening batsman for India, has agreed to serve as the batting consultant for the Bangladesh Under-19 squad and Bangladesh’s high-performance team (‘A’ side) for a period of two years.

Last season, Wasim Jaffer was the head coach of Orissa. He played in 31 Test matches, recording 1944 runs at 34.10, five hundreds, and two ODIs. From 2019 to 2021, he was the batting coach of the Punjab Kings. A giant in domestic cricket, he amassed 19,410 runs in 260 First-Class matches, including 57 hundreds.

“I’m thrilled to get the chance to work at the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s high performance center and train the country’s Under-19 lads for the next level (in Mirpur). I’ve previously collaborated with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, “Jaffer said with TOI on Monday.

Jaffer has previously worked in Bangladesh as a batting consultant for an ODI series against Sri Lanka at home in 2019. He was also a batting consultant at the BCB’s academy in Mirpur at the time, working with the Bangladesh Under-19s and Under-16s. Bangladesh defeated India in the Under-19 World Cup final to win it in South Africa in February 2020.

The 44-year-old Mumbai native had participated for Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier League in 2018–19.

Jaffer is very confident about a better future for Bangladesh cricket because to the present crop of young players. “Most of these people trained with me. Age-group cricket has been played often by them for some time. They understand each other quite well.

“This bunch has a lot of skill. I was with Shahadat Hossain in addition to Akbar. Prantik also was (Nawrose Nabil).

I attentively observed the majority of them… They outperformed the majority of the teams. India was the favorite to win the championship, but Jaffer remarked that they were also outdone.

For Shahadat, the final turned out to be the only time he was eliminated from the competition, giving him a startling average of 131.

Jaffer continued, “Bangladesh cricket is slowly but surely establishing itself.

After the IPL this season, Jaffer will re-join the BCB academy.

Speaking more specifically about the outcome, Jaffer noted that Bangladesh had chosen well to bowl first after winning the toss. They followed that with their bowling to support it. Although they did panic in the midst, they remained composed towards the conclusion. I believe that overall, they outperformed India, which I believe lost its way when Yashasvi (Jaiswal) was expelled.
