Former Mumbai Indians fast-bowler, Lasith Malinga, has signed a new agreement as a fast-bowling coach for Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2022. The franchise, Rajasthan Royals, on its official Twitter account had posted a tweet by describing Malinga’s famous action of ‘Kissing the ball’. “Lasith Malinga. IPL. Pink,” the franchise tweeted. In this article, we have discussed who is the Rajasthan Royals Fast Bowling Coach.
Malinga’s maiden role as Rajasthan Royals’ fast-bowling coach for IPL 2022
During his past stint as MI’s fast-bowler, Malinga has registered his mark of being the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL with the total number of wickets tuning to 170 in 122 matches. He had five IPL titles and played a vital role in the franchise’s title-winning occasions.
Interestingly, Malinga is going to execute his new role along with Sri Lanka’s famous wicket-keeper Kumara Sangakarra, the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. “It’s a wonderful feeling for me to return to the IPL and an absolute honor to join Rajasthan Royals, a franchise that has always promoted and developed young talent,” Malinga said, ESPNcricinfo quoted as saying.
“I am excited by the pace bowling unit we have going into the tournament and looking forward to supporting all the fast bowlers with the execution of their game plans and their overall development. I’ve made some very special memories in the IPL with Mumbai Indians and now with Royals, looking forward to new experiences and creating great memories in this journey.”
In IPL 2022, the RR squad will be playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 29. Sanju Samson, who is going to lead the team, was one of the three players retained by the side ahead of the mega auction in February.
According to News18 Cricket, Sangakkara welcomed Malinga at the RR camp, stating that his expertise can help the Royals in the upcoming season.
“Lasith is arguably one of the greatest T20 fast bowlers of all time, and to have a personality like his around the training ground, and the expertise he brings to the table, is certainly something we feel the team can benefit from,” said Sangakkara, the agency quoted as saying.
