Asia Cup 2022, India vs Pakistan: Is Virat Kohli Ruled Out Of Asia Cup 2022 Due To injury? On Sunday in Dubai, Team India will kick off their campaign for the tournament with a tense match against archrivals Pakistan (August 28). But on Thursday (August 25), just days before the match, Indian cricket fans received a huge shock when word spread on social media that former India captain Virat Kohli might be forced to withdraw from the competition owing to a “wrist injury.”

The story was shared by noted Sri Lankan analyst Roshan Abeysinghe, who is in the UAE to cover the Asia Cup 2022, which starts on Saturday, and it quickly went viral on social media (August 27). In a since-deleted tweet, Abeysinghe stated, “Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the Asia Cup squad due to Wrist Injury. Shubman Gill replaces him in the Team India squad.”

The story turned out to be false, so the Indian supporters may finally exhale with relief. Abeysinghe promptly removed the post and expressed regret to his followers by writing, “Sorry Virat’s News is fake. The tweet has been deleted”.

In reality, at the ICC Academy in Dubai, Kohli took part in Team India’s first training session. The former skipper had outstanding form in the nets, ruthlessly crushing the spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Prior to the Asia Cup, which will begin on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates, Kohli acknowledged that there was a pattern to his poor performance during the England trip, which offered him something to concentrate on and overcome during his downtime from the sport.

After a sabbatical of more than a month, Kohli rejoins the Indian team for the Asia Cup in the T20I format. He last competed on the tour of England in July, scoring 16 and 17 in two ODIs, 1 and 11 in two T20Is, and 11 and 20 in the fifth Test that was postponed and played at Edgbaston.

If Kohli plays against Pakistan in India’s starting XI for the Asia Cup 2022 opener on August 28 in Dubai, which has been labelled the “greatest rivalry” in cricket, it will be his 100th T20I appearance.
