Captain Rohit Sharma, who missed the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Birmingham due to Covid-19, is now fit and all set to lead India in the limited-over series against England, starting July 07.
During the press meet ahead of 1st T20 against England, the skipper Rohit Sharma said that his recovery from COVID-19 has been good he is looking forward to play in the first T20 at Southampton.
On asking about the highly charged English side, the Indian skipper said, “England is going to be a very challenging team for us. I’m pretty sure these boys have been here for a while. They went to Ireland; they played a couple of practice games here. Now we look forward to this T20 series and thereafter the ODI series as well.”
What Rohit Sharma said about India’s T20 World Cup preparation
With ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is just 3 months away, every game is crucial for the team, Rohit said.
“Of course, we are definitely keeping one eye on the World Cup. I wouldn’t say it’s preparation. Every game for India matters to us. We want to come here and try and tick every box we have. And make sure we get the job done, as simple as that.” said Rohit in a press conference on the eve of the first T20I.
Indian team will play the first T20I in the absence of their star players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. They have given rest due to workload management.
Rohit Sharma, who was not the part of test side due to COVID will once again be seen in leadership role alongside the Indian camp, who came from Ireland after beating them by 2-0.
The rested players will be back in the squad from the 2nd T20I. And they will remain the part of 3-match ODI series as well.
After the completion of T20I series both team will lock horns in the 50-over format, starting on July 12.
