India crashed to a defeat vs Australia in their semi-final fixture of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, on Thursday.

India, facing a 173-run target, reached 167/8 in 20 overs, losing by five runs despite Harman Preet Kaur’s half-century. The Indian captain hit six fours and a maximum his route to scoring 52 runs off just 34 balls.

Darcie Brown and Ashleigh Gardner, two of Australia’s bowlers, both bowled well and both claimed two wickets. The first 20 overs of Australia’s innings saw Beth Mooney score a half-century and be in excellent form as they reached 172/4. With just 37 balls, Mooney scored 54 runs, including seven fours and a six.

Meg Lanning, the skipper, scored 49 runs off 34 balls, an undefeated effort that included four fours and two sixes. Shikha Pandey, who was in excellent bowling form for India, finished with two dismissals. While Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma each managed one.

Australia 172/4 after 20 overs (Beth Mooney 54, Mag Lanning 49*)

With two massive sixes off Renuka Thakur to score 18 runs in the penultimate over, Australia’s captain Meg Lanning (49* off 34) put the finishing touches on the team’s innings. Lanning added a four to it as well. With the ball, Renuka Thakur had a difficult day, finishing with 0 for 41 in 4 overs.

The side got off to a terrific start thanks to Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy, who won the toss and elected to bat first. Australian ladies produced a strong defensive effort for the women in the ticket to final match despite losing 4 wickets. They were in good shape and had just handily defeated South Africa in the previous match.

At last Australia will fight for the title in the Finals as they cleared the fence for the ICC T20 Finals 2023.
