T20 World Cup 2022: Title Favourites?

The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup will be played in Australia. It is the home team that is the defending champions. No team hosting the T20 World Cup has ever won the tournament. Not just this, no team has defended their T20 World Cup crown yet.

Australia will be looking to correct a few records in this edition. Teams like South Africa, and New Zealand boast of familiar conditions at home. They will be keen to make the advantage count.

We look favourite teams for the T20 World Cup 2022:

#4 India

They were overwhelming favourites in the previous edition. But India crashed out sensationally in the first round itself. They couldn’t get past Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stage. The team has since then revamped its style of play. India no longer appears caged batting first. But it is their bowling that has become a major worry.

In the absence of Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, the balance too appears shaky. The team does have a galaxy of superstars but can they fire when needed most? It is this question that fans will be waiting for to be answered.

#3 England

They showcased their depth in the squad with an away series win over Pakistan. Despite the absence of a few key players, England continued playing their brand of cricket. There is a lot of firepower in their batting. It is a healthy mix of youth and experience. But much like India, it is their bowling that remains a concern.

Jofra Archer is too big a name to be replaced in the shortest format. England fell short in this department the last time in knockouts. They would do well to go one better this time.

#2 South Africa

Unlike most teams in this competition, South Africa is one team that boasts a quality bowling attack. They have world-class pacers in their ranks who can rattle any opposition. Their spinners are grossly underrated and often tilt the game in their team’s balance. Their only visible weakness remains the team combination.

Africa is forced to play just 6 specialist batters on most occasions. But they have won almost everything this year with this combination. They do have a team that can finally go all the way this World Cup.

#1 Australia

They appear to be the strongest contenders for T20 World Cup 2022. Australia arguably has the most potent batting lineup ever assembled in the tournament’s history. The addition of Cameroon Green at the top of the order makes them even more dangerous. In Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc, they have two match winners in bowling.

Being the home team, Australia does have a distinct advantage. They won the ODI World Cup in 2015 when they were the primary hosts. Their form and personnel do suggest that an encore is on the cards.
