Let’s see what Rohit Sharma addressed in the Press Conference.
Game versus Pakistan in World Cup: the biggest of all opportunities?
Addressing the question, Rohit looked quite humorous. He defied this match as biggest and addressed to past experience against the team in big tournaments. He said. “Occasion keeps changing. I have played World Cup final against Pakistan in 2007. I think that whenever I play for India, its a big moment for me. Whether it is in 2007 or 2022, it is important. I know what it means to play for India. I know it’s a big honour.”
Pressure Addressal
We know game against Pakistan is always a big thing for us fans. It is always interesting to learn about what our captain and his team thinks about the event. Addressing the same, Rohit said, “I do not want to use this word pressure, Pakistan have always been a good team. On that particular day, if you are good enough, you will always win.”
Rain Impact
There were high chances of rain impacting the game. Even if the match takes place, there will be impact of wet outfield and slow over rate because of wet ball. Regarding that, Rohit said, “Yes, it (toss) does become a little important. Melbourne weather keeps changing. You don’t really know what is going to happen tomorrow. We need to come here thinking it will be a 40-over game, but if it is a shortened game, we will be ready for it.”
Long Prep in Australia
India Team started their campaign quite early. They even played matches against clubs in Perth before the official Warm Ups. Even then, there are a lot of changes that took place in the squad due to injury. Rohit talked about team’s preparation ahead of the game. He said, “When you are on big tours, you need to prepare well, lot of guys are not used to playing in foreign conditions. This was a conscious decision from BCCI and team management that we wanted to be prepared to the best of our ability. We made a conscious decision of going to Australia early.”
Shami Effect
Shami blew us all away with his scintillating last over in the Warm up match against Australia. But he didn’t not bowl anywhere throughout the match. Talking about the Shami’s role in the team, Rohit said, “Shami has so much experience. When Bumrah was injured we wanted to have someone experienced. We know he is very good with the new ball. We wanted to give him an old ball and throw a challenge at him. He is very much ready,”
India meets Pakistan on 23rd October, Sunday in Melbourne. We hope the weather gods are kind to us and we don’t see a washout of the most anticipated event of the tournament.
