Daryll Mitchell ready to play T20 World Cup despite hand fracture

New Zealand’s star all-rounder Daryll Mitchell on Monday confirmed that he will take part in the approaching T20 World Cup despite fracturing his hand some days ago.

Mitchell fractured his right-arm during net session, and was ruled out of the ongoing Tri-series and was doubtful for the marquee event, but now he receives green signal to play in the mega event. “Obviously it’s a massive relief, but it’s really nice to get the nod and give this hand a chance to be ready,” Mitchell told reporters.

“The fracture is in a good spot and it’s going to be able to heal in time.”

What New Zealand’s Coach said about Daryll Mitchell?

New Zealand’s Coach Gary believes that Mitchell will not play in the first game of New Zealand on October 22 against Australia. But, he will likely to return for the Afghanistan match on October 26.

Earlier Coach Gary talked about Mitchell’s importance in the side, as he said that they will miss his all-round skills and versatility in the ongoing Tri-series.

“Daryl’s become a really important player to our T20 unit and we’re certainly going to miss his all-round skills and versatility in the Tri-Series. With our first game of the World Cup in just over two weeks we need to take some to consider Daryl’s recovery timeline and his potential involvement in the tournament,” he added.

Mitchell has scored 265 runs in 10 games this year at an impressive average of 33.12 with a blistering strike-rate of 153.17.

Mitchell ruled out of Tri-series 

Due to fractured hand, Mitchell was unable to take part in any of the matches in the ongoing Tri-series between New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The series mark as a preparation for the T20 World Cup. Pakistan is currently leading the points table with 2 wins in 2 games.

New Zealand team will travel to Australia for the T20 World Cup on October 15.

The Blackcaps have selected plenty of sound pacers in the squad for the marquee event. Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne will be there as the main bowlers. While James Neesham and Daryll Mitchell are also in the squad to further balance their fast bowling department.

New Zealand, however, in a strong group in the mega event. They have been placed alongside Australia, England and Afghanistan. While there will be two more teams that will added to the group after the T20 World Cup qualifiers.

The Kane Williamson-led side will begin their T20 World Cup journey on October 22 against Australia at Sydney.

While they need to play two warm-up games before the group matches. They will play their first match against South-Africa on October 17. While they will play the second warm-up against India on October 19 at Gabba.
