How Netherlands beat South Africa in World Cup 2023?
It was only two days ago when Afghanistan scripted history by beating the defending champions, and today Netherlands took the same route and defeated one of the pre-tournament favourites by a big margin in Dharamshala.
The Dutch fought hard in an exciting game and played their game in a convincing way to hand South Africa their first loss of the tournament.
Netherlands bowlers broke the back of the chasing side by removing their top four players at just 44. Chasing a target of 246 in 43 overs, South Africa seemed clueless against the less experienced Netherlands, and as a result they lost the game by 38 runs.
SA vs NED Highlights
South Africa invited Netherlands to bat after winning the toss in the cloudy weather which reduced the overs to 43.
The start was not in favour of the Dutch side as they lost half of their teams at the score of just 82, and the sixth wicket on 112 and the seventh on 140.
With only 140 on board after 34, Netherlands were looking in big trouble, but their skipper Scott Edwards stood tall above all odds and went onto to score unbeaten 78 to help his side post a solid total of 245 on board in 43 overs.
Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jensen, and Kagiso Rabada took 2 wickets each, while Coetzee and Maharaj grabbed 1-1.
SA vs NED Highlights: South Africa to chase 246 runs in 43 overs
Underestimating the Dutch side, South Africa faced a heat while chasing the target and lost their four batters at 44.
Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller showed some signs of fightback, but Klaasen left Miller alone at the crease, Jensen too failed to leave a mark and went back early.
Miller was fighting single handedly, but his fight didn’t last for long as he got bowled by Logan van Beek for 43.
Netherlands then restricted the Proteas at 207 to claim their biggest world cup win ever. The win also helped them to open their account on the points table.
