Rohit Sharma disagrees with Kapil Dev’s comments on Virat Kohli’s selection for the T20I team

Team India almost did an unthinkable task of chasing 216 runs in a T20 game but fell short by 17 runs despite Suryakumar’s splendid ton. Apart from Surya, no other Indian batter displayed any signs of tenacity, with top-order batters, including Virat Kohli walked back into the pavilion during the powerplay itself.

After a poor run in one-off test against England earlier this month. Virat Kohli managed to score only 12 runs in two T20 games. Despite this, India’s captain Rohit Sharma disagreed with Kapil Dev’s remarks on the top batsman’s position in the team.

Rohit said that he is observing the game from the outside and is unaware of what is going on inside.

The former captain Kapil Dev had recently said in a statement that when R Ashwin, who is the number two bowler, can be dropped from the Test team, then why can’t Virat Kohli be dropped from the T20 team, because he is the current one. Doesn’t fit the setup.

Kapil Dev had said, “If he (Virat) is not performing then you can’t keep these boys (young guys like Deepak Hooda) out. Virat needs to think that yes once I was a big player, but I need to play like that No. 1 player again. It’s a problem for the team, it’s not a bad problem.”

On this, Rohit expressed his thoughts at the post-match press conference, “He is watching the game from outside and doesn’t know what is happening inside. We have our own thought process. We make our own team and there is a lot of thinking behind it. We boys. We support and give them opportunities. In such a situation, you do not know these things from outside. So what is happening outside is not important, but what is happening inside is more important for us.”

“Everyone goes through ups and downs when it comes to form. The quality of the player is not affected. So we should keep these things in mind.

When a player is doing well for so many years, then there is one thing. Or two bad series doesn’t make him a bad player. We shouldn’t ignore his past performances. We who are in the team know the importance of a player. He has every right to talk about it, but it’s too much for us. Doesn’t matter much,” he added.
