Ricky Ponting promotes Tim David by saying, “He could potentially win you a World Cup.”

Tim David, according to former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, is the kind of player who may lead his country to the T20 World Cup victory. Ricky Ponting likens David’s match-winning skills to those of 2003 50-over World Cup hero Andrew Symonds. Here in this article, we talk about Ricky Ponting praises Tim David.

Ponting said that if he were an Australia selector, he would find a place for the potent right-hander in the team even though the 2022 T20 World Cup hosts are defending a championship they won without David in the lineup last year. Ponting recently accepted a position as head of the strategy for the Hobart Hurricanes, where David competes in the BBL.

He compared David’s power hitting to that of his late buddy Symonds, who was a last-minute addition to Australia’s 2003 World Cup side and dominated, scoring a superb 143 not out in the first game against Pakistan and another match-winning 91 not out in the semi-final against Sri Lanka.

“I would love to have someone like that in my squad if I were a selector,” Ponting remarked. He is an unquestionable match-winner whether he is participating in the contest or not just because of his striking power abilities.

“He is the kind of athlete that might truly help you win the World Cup. He is not simply a regular individual who may accidentally join a squad. He actually makes me think of someone like Andrew Symonds from the 2003 World Cup, to be honest. You are aware that they have a possibility to win a competition for you if you let them in and give them a chance.

I would be viewing him at this moment in that way. I’m aware that Australia’s middle order features several more outstanding players of the highest calibre. However, it’s likely that none of them can boast a CV as impressive as Tim’s during the past two years.”
David’s inclusion in the 15-man team presents a problem for Australia’s selection committee, which is made up of Tony Dodemaide, Andrew McDonald, and chair George Bailey. As the squad was chosen soon before his incredible run of form in the IPL, they did not choose him for the T20I trip to Sri Lanka.

Following their triumphs at the World Cup the previous year, Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade have cemented themselves as Australia’s Nos. 6 and 7. Also decided are the top four. The only player in that lineup who stands out as being susceptible is Steven Smith, who has been put in at No. 5 in Australia’s T20I selection because the selectors are confident that the veteran would perform when necessary in the T20 World Cup.

Recently, captain Aaron Finch opined that David will eventually get the chance to play for Australia. Australia’s following T20I assignment is a three-match series against India in September in India. Given that the matches will be played in radically different circumstances than those that will be experienced at the World Cup, David may be included in that team if a couple of Australia’s multi-format hitters are rested. However, it’s probable that those matches will take place after the 15-man World Cup roster has been announced.
Ponting got a close-up view of David in the IPL when he scored 34 runs off only 11 balls for Mumbai Indians against the Ponting-coached Delhi Capitals to eliminate Delhi from the playoffs.

In the past 12 to 18 months, Ponting remarked, “He’s been terrific in practically every event he’s played throughout the world.” “Since he began the IPL season with Mumbai and didn’t return until just before the finish, when he produced some match-winning innings, he was arguably a little bit unlucky not to have played more.

“We definitely have a lot of excitement about him as a player. Due to his consistency and ability to win matches, I believe there is a potential for him to assume a little bit more responsibility in the batting order with the Hurricanes this season. We don’t want to squander that, and we don’t want to keep him watching for too long.

I am aware that one of the strategic issues we have previously discussed with him is how to get the most out of him and make the most of his abilities.

The Australian selectors are undoubtedly debating him for the World Cup in a few months because he is a very, very excellent, and dangerous T20 player.
