New Batting Coach of Indian Women’s team

New Batting Coach: The senior Indian women’s cricket team has hired former India batsman Hrishikesh Kanitkar as its batting coach. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Monday.

In time for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against Australia that gets underway on December 9 in Mumbai, Kanitkar will join the squad. As part of the BCCI’s restructuring initiative, Ramesh Powar, the former head coach of the women’s team, will work alongside VVS Laxman at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and transition to coaching men’s cricket.

First Task of Kanitkar

Hrishikesh Kanitkar will join India’s support staff when India faces Australia in a five-match T20I series later this week. the former all-rounder for India who most recently travelled to New Zealand with the Indian men’s team. Now Hrishikesh Kanitkar will join the Indian women’s squad before Australia.

Kanitkar’s Comments

After being appointed as the new batting coach of India, Hrishikesh Kanitkar was quoted saying, “It is an honour to be appointed as the new batting coach of the senior women’s team. I see tremendous prospects in this team and we have a good mix of youth and experience. I believe this team is ready for the challenge ahead. We have a few marquee events coming up and it is going to be exciting for the team and myself as batting coach.”

Former Coach Comments

On his side, former head coach Powar expressed excitement about working with Laxman at the NCA. “I have had an enriching experience in my stint as head coach of the senior women’s team. Over the years I have worked closely with some of the stalwarts of the game and upcoming talents of the country.”

He further said that “With my new role at the NCA, I will be looking to take forward my experience over the years to help build talent for the future. I look forward to working in tandem with Laxman for the further development of the game and bench strength.”

Indian Women’s Next Series

The Indian women’s team for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against Australia was previously unveiled by BCCI on Friday. On December 9 at the D.Y.Patil Stadium, India will play their maiden T20 International game against Australia.

The second game will be played at the same stadium on December 11. For the third, fourth, and fifth Twenty20 Internationals. Both teams will proceed to the Brabourne Stadium. which will take place on Dec. 14, Dec. 17, and Dec. 20.
