West Indies vice-captain Hayley Matthews has been withdrawn from the squad just before the ODI series against Australia. West Indies cricket has charged her for breaching the Code of Conduct for an incident that took place on Wednesday in Antigua.

West Indies Cricket Board has stated in a press release about her withdrawal that is less than two hours before the scheduled start of the first ODI against Australia on Thursday, in Coolidge.

“Hayley Matthews has been withdrawn from the West Indies Women’s squad for the upcoming series against Australia. This has arisen from a charge of breaching the CWI Code of Conduct following an incident that took place on Wednesday 4th September 2019 in Antigua. The matter has been referred to as CWI Disciplinary Tribunal,” – CWI stated.

With Matthews exit form the squad has seemed to be another blow as several senior players have been already missing from the squad due to injuries. Further, the selectors have named offspinner Sheneta Grimmond from Guyana, as a replacement for Matthews.
