Suresh Raina On Kohli’s Captaincy
In December 2014, Kohli was named India’s Test captain, and in 2017, he was promoted to limited-overs captain. In the Indian Premier League, Virat is the captain for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Moreover, the Delhi resident has been criticized by social media users for failing to win an IPL title or an ICC tournament for India. But, Raina backed Kohli, stating that reaching the finals is not a simple task.
“I think he has been the No. 1 captain. His record proves that he has achieved a lot. I think he is the No. 1 batsman in the world. You’re talking about an ICC trophy but he hasn’t even won an IPL yet. I feel that he needs to be given some time”.
“There are 2-3 World Cups taking place one after the other – two T20 World Cups and then the 50-over World Cup. It’s not easy to reach the final – sometimes you miss out on a few things,” Raina said in an Interview.

India was defeated by New Zealand in the World Test Championship final at the Rose Bowl in Southampton in June. On the Reserve Day, India’s batting collapsed, as Kohli’s side lost that game by 8 wickets. Kyle Jamieson was named Player of the Match after bowling a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Following that, internet users began to refer to Kohli and his squad as the “C” word. Raina stated that India does not deserve to be called disrespectful names after winning three World Cups.
“See, we are not chokers, because we already have the 1983 World Cup, 2007 T20 World Cup the then 50-over World Cup in 2011. We need to understand that players are training hard. With three World Cups approaching, I don’t think anyone will call them chokers,” Raina added.
