In 2022, a full-fledged women’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) competition will be held alongside the men’s event, according to tournament organizers.
The three-team inaugural women’s CPL 2022 will take place from August 30 to September 30 within the CPL competition season, and will include elite women’s cricketers from the Caribbean as well as international stars.

The men’s CPL will be held in three different nations. There will be three locations hosting the league stage and a fourth hosting the finals. The format and size of the women’s competition were not disclosed by the organizers.
In a statement, Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Ricky Skerritt said, “Increasing possibilities for West Indian women and girls to get engaged in cricket is one of CWI’s strategic goals.”
“We are convinced that all CPL women’s games will be fiercely contested and provide excellent entertainment for our fans in the area and throughout the world.”
CWI, which held two 10-over matches for women’s cricketers in 2019, has now launched a women’s Twenty20 event, following in the footsteps of the cricket boards of Australia, New Zealand, and England.
Australia’s domestic T20 league is the Women’s Big Bash League, whereas New Zealand’s is the Women’s Super Smash. Last year, England hosted the first ‘The Hundred’ event for women, which ran concurrently with the men’s game.
The franchise-style Women’s T20 Challenge, which the Indian cricket board (BCCI) has hosted alongside the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs, is presently the only women’s cricket league in Asia.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has said that a women’s IPL might start as early as next year, while Ramiz Raja, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has stated that the PCB is working on establishing a women’s Pakistan Super League (PSL).
