With a 3-0 lead, West Indies effectively sealed the destiny of their five-match T20I series with Australia. The hosts won by 6 wickets with 31 balls to go, striving for 142 runs in the 3rd game. 3rd T20I: Chris Gayle’s half-century takes West Indies to series win over Australia
The opponents had a good start after electing to bat, collecting 45 runs in the powerplay having lost the wicket of Matthew Wade. Mitchell Marsh, who had 50’s in the first 2-games, was unable to reach double figures. Aaron Finch struggled for a few moments as his 30-run performance was cut short by a run-a-ball.
Alex Carey, Moises Henriques and Ashton Turner all had promising starts, but none of them were able to complete the task. Hayden Walsh Jr and Fabian Allen, two excellent spinners from the West Indies, were tough to avoid. The pair received 3 wickets for 44 runs at 5.50. Mostly in end, the Australians scored 141 runs in 20 overs.
Gayle scored his first half-century in T20Is since 2016 in just 33 balls. He hit Adam Zampa for 4 fours and 7 sixes in a 38-ball 67. Nicholas Pooran made an undefeated 27-ball 32 to allow the West Indies side to victory.
Finch Disappointed As Team’s Top-Order Failed Once Again
West Indies beat Australia in third T20I. Gayle was called “the greatest T20 batsman” by Pooran, who won his third T20I in a lane as captain. In the T20 format, Gayle went on to score 14,000 runs. On the other side, Australian captain Finch was disappointed as his team’s top-order once again failed to produce.
“It was a top game. We kept asking for improvement. Today we executed our plans both with bat and ball. He (Gayle) is the greatest T20 batsman to play this game, really pleased for him. I didn’t dream (of starting captaincy with three straight wins) but this is a lovely bunch of guys,” said Pooran.
“We haven’t had our top order batting deep, losing too many wickets early and exposing our middle order. Credit to the West Indies, they bowled the right lengths and pace, didn’t let us score freely. We would have liked more runs no doubt. And that comes down to the top order not going deep,” Finch told after the game.
