Viv Richards Says He Did Not Mind Dying On Cricket Field

West Indies legend Sir Viv Richards, one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket, said he had so much passion for cricket that he even was ready to die on the field representing his country.

I took Inspiration From Other Players Who Took Risks: Richards

Richards was known for his very aggressive batting. He was also one of the cricketers widely talked for not wearing a helmet while facing some of the most ferocious fast bowlers in history.

Richards noted that he did not mind dying for something he loved and if he died for what he chose there was no better way to die than it.

During a podcast interview, he told former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson,” The passion for the game I felt such that I wouldn’t mind dying playing something that I love. If this is what I chose and I go down here, what better way is there to go.”

He also said he looked up to some other athletes who risked their life for inspiration and had great respect for them.

“I have looked at other sportsmen and women who I have a lot of respect for doing it to an extreme level,” he said.

I see a guy driving a Formula 1 racing car, what could be more dangerous than that?” said Richards, to which Watson replied jokingly: “Facing 150kph without a helmet?”

“I Did Not Wear Mouth Guard As I Wanted To Have Chewing-gum”

The world cup winner also revealed that his dentist advised him to a wear mouth guard but the great player refused after trying a few times as it was getting in his way of having chewing-gum while batting.

“One of my dentists made me a mouthpiece and all and I tried it a few times but I always enjoyed my chewing gum. It made me sort of look cool, calmed me down, it gave me sort of rhythm,” he said.

The great player made 8,540 runs in Tests and 6721 runs in ODIs.
