India U19s Batting Looked High Class, Future Looks Secure: Vaughan

The India U19 squad advanced to the World Cup final after a comfortable semi-final victory against Australia on Wednesday (February 2). Despite batting first, the boys in blue scored 290 runs courtesy to a spectacular century from captain Yash Dhull and a fantastic 94 from vice-captain Shaik Rasheed. They smashed 108 runs in the final ten overs, and the 204-run stand between Dhull and Rasheed pushed India up for a large total. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan was so pleased with the boys’ performance that he said that the Indian team’s future seems secured. He was also impressed by skipper Yash Dhull’s bat and praised him as exceptional.

It was never going to be that easy pursuing 291 runs, and the Australian side quickly realized that when Ravi Kumar dismissed one of their starters early. Campbell Kellaway and Corey Miller then put up a 68-run partnership before India’s spinners seized over and ultimately destroyed Australia’s innings. Kaushal Tambe, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Nishant Sindhu, and Vicky Ostwal formed a spin combination having grabbed 7 wickets among them.

In a collective 25-over spell, they only surrendered 110 runs, never letting Australia to get back into the action. Lachlan Shaw smashed a half-century but failed to take the control of the game. Mostly in 42nd over, Australia was destroyed for 194 runs, concluding in a 96-run defeat.

India and England will face off in the U19 WC final at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, on February 5. India is playing in their 4th successive final, whereas England is participating for the first time since 1998.
