Smith Blames Loss Of Quick Wickets For Defeat Against India

Steve Smith regrets the loss of quick wickets

Steve Smith regretted the loss of three wickets quickly of his team in the mid 30 and 40 overs, in which he was also out. It proved to be a reason for Australia’s 36-run loss against India in the second ODI at Rajkot.

India scored 340 and then bowled out the Australian team for 304. Team India leveled the three-match series 1-1. Opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 96 off 90 balls.

Smith said the reason behind the loss of the match was the dismissal of three batsmen in quick succession between 30 and 40 overs and not having someone in that place who could again reinitiate the launch. If the team had someone out there for a while, then perhaps things may have been different. But that was probably where they lost it, he added after the game on Friday.

Kuldeep as the game changer

Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav turned out to be the game-changer by taking wickets of Smith and Alex Carey in the 38th over of the match. Marnus Labuschagne got out in the 31st over.

Steve Smith faces short balls

Smith said it felt good to score huge runs for the team but he would have liked to take the squad over the line. Smith faced short-balls from Indian fast bowlers and Australian batsman he said had to think on how to play them. The key to India’s victory in the match were the partnerships between players in the middle overs, according to Smith.

India level the series

India showed admirable performance by leveling the series 1-1. The final match will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on the 19th of January. Smith hopes it will be a high-scoring event.
