Star Bowler Set To Miss IPL 2022
Anrich Nortje’s availability for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is in jeopardy, which might be termed as a major blow for the Delhi Capitals (DC) given that the fast bowler has not bowled frequently since November the year before despite nagging injuries. Here is the detailed info about the star bowler set to miss IPL 2022.
Huge Blow For DC As Anrich Nortje Doubtful for IPL 2022
According to the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) strategies for the forthcoming 15th edition of the IPL, their prime fast bowler, Anrich Nortje of South Africa, could miss the major part of the competition, although not the entire competition, as he is still recovering from a hip injury, according to CSA’s selection committee member, Victor Mpitsang.
Nortje was among the top bowlers for the IPL 2020 finalists DC during the last 2 seasons. Prior to the mammoth auction, the Delhi retained 4 players, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Anrich Nortje, who could pay Rs 6 crores this season. Nortje has 34 scalps for DC in 24 IPL games with an economy of 7.65.
Medical team whether Nortje will be cleared for the IPL: Mpitsang
Nortje has been left out of the South Africa team for the 3 match One Day series versus Bangladesh, which will be contested in Centurion and Johannesburg from March 18 to 23. The CSA’s, Victor Mpitsang, reckons Nortje might struggle to participate in the IPL 2022, which begins in far less than 3 weeks.
“It’s probably going to be difficult [for Nortje to go to the IPL]. He has not really been bowling much since November. We don’t have any timeframe on his return. It’s been a long one. The medical team will give advice on whether he will be cleared for the IPL,” CSA’s selection convenor Mpitsang.
Nortje has not featured cricket in 4 months after sustaining hip ailments during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. Following that, he skipped the series at home versus India as well as the away Tests versus New Zealand owing to a “chronic” hip problem. Dr. Shuaib Manjra, the CSA’s senior medical officer, also stated that Nortje’s quest to achieve the appropriate level of fitness has indeed been “frustrating.”
“He is currently being investigated. He has been seen by three different orthopedic surgeons. He is struggling with loading and doing most of the other rehab work. He is not ready for the Bangladesh series. We don’t know about the IPL. I guess it’s frustrating. He keeps fit, he works extremely hard. All goes fine, except for when he picks up his bowling loads. He has got discomfort. We have identified three different problems between back and hip and we don’t know which is primary,” Dr. Shuaib Manjra said.
Nortje has signed the DC camp for the IPL 2020 season as a substitute for England’s Chris Woakes, who had withdrawn from the competition. He has subsequently been an important part of the DC team, having a negative effect with teammate Kagiso Rabada in 2 seasons.
