Sourav Ganguly Discusses IND’s Series In SA Noting Omicron Variant

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly stated that India’s visit to South Africa will proceed as usual for the time being. The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus has identified South Africa as a ‘risk country,’ although BCCI and Ganguly do not want to worry and tend to take their homework before making any decisions. Here is all about Sourav Ganguly  On India’s Series In South Africa Tour.

Despite the COVID-19 concern, the BCCI has not withdrawn India A from its current red-ball games versus South Africa A at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. The next tour is set to begin on Friday, December 17 with the first Test at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.

“The tour is on as things stand till now. We still have time to decide. The first Test is scheduled for December 17. We will ponder about it,” Ganguly told.

Following the end of India’s current 2-match Test series versus New Zealand, the Indian players are expected to take a flight for Johannesburg on December 8 or 9. On the visit, India will play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 4 T20Is.

Don’t compare Hardik Pandya with Kapil Dev: Ganguly

Furthermore, Ganguly stated that choices will be taken with the players’ safety and well-being in consideration. The senior stated that the BCCI will not risk the safety of the players under any circumstances.

“Players’ security and health has always been BCCI’s first priority, we will do everything possible for this. We will see what happens in the days to come,” he stated.

Furthermore, Ganguly believes Hardik Pandya has the ability to make a strong comeback after dealing with injuries and lack of form recently. Hardik was unable to make the Kiwi series. Ganguly also advised spectators not to compare Pandya to the iconic Kapil Dev.

“He is a good cricketer. He’s not fit, that’s why he’s not there in the team. He’s young, I hope he makes a comeback after recovering from his injury. Don’t compare him (Hardik) with Kapil Dev. He belonged to a different league,” said Ganguly.
