Shreyas Iyer ‘Answered The Critics With His Bat’: Irfan Pathan

As the 2022 T20 World Cup is approaching which is less than 8 months to go, all competing sides would like to bring up a powerful lineup for the tournament. Team India’s strategies appear to be on track, as they have won all 7 T20Is since being eliminated early from the 2021 T20 World Cup. Following 3-0 whitewashes of New Zealand and the West Indies, the Men in Blue beat Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the opening game out of T20 Internationals. Here in this article, we have covered Irfan Pathan Comments On Shreyas Iyer performance.

Shreyas Iyer batted at no.3 in the match since Virat Kohli being rested for the present series. The right-handed batsman put on a striking show, scoring 57 off 28 balls. Veteran Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan is overwhelmed by Iyer’s heroics and believes the youngster has calmed his critics.

When Shreyas is in form, it is enjoyable to watch: Pathan

“This guy has the swag. When this boy is in form, it is enjoyable to watch. In the big shots he plays, he doesn’t stay at one spot, but despite that, the balance he generates, it is his own ability. I like the non-looker six he hits the most. The two sixes he hit off the slower ones – one-off Karunaratne and later off Chameera. He answered the critics with his bat, you don’t need to answer with your tongue,” said Pathan in a conversation

Shreyas has amassed 662 runs in 34 T20Is thus far, with an avg of 30.09 and a strike rate of 137.06. Furthermore, former Team India batting coach Sanjay Bangar, who has been on the committee, believes the 27-year-old could be Kohli’s optimum back-up in T20Is.

“The bench is getting strong. The position at which Shreyas is being sent to bat, he is being continuously sent at No. 3. So God forbid if Virat Kohli gets injured in some match, I feel he can become a very good option at No. 3, and that is probably where the team management’s sights are set on Shreyas Iyer,” said Bangar in a conversation.

Shreyas Iyer said in the (1st T20I) post-match presentation that he tried to bribe Team India vice-captain, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for taking the bowling in the death overs: “I had already put my hand up (for a bowl). Around the 16th over when he (Rohit) went it he had already told Bumrah these are the bowlers who need to bowl. I tried to bribe Bumrah but it didn’t work for me (laughs),” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

Shreyas “My start was slow but it wasn’t easy. But once my eye got in, and once I got a boundary, I thought I would keep going. Ishan (Kishan) wasn’t able to time (in the middle overs) and he too was losing patience, so I told him to take his time and then he again started timing well. I just told him to take his time, look for twos and threes”.
