And now Shreyas Iyer has spoken up about his return. Despite returning from injury, Iyer believes that playing in the IPL is a fantastic chance for him. The IPL will be decided to follow by the T20 World Cup in 2021, and Iyer believes that the IPL and the T20 World Cup are two of the most important competitions in which an Indian player can compete.

The right-handed batter went on to say that his 4 months away from the sport inspired him to work much harder. Iyer has even declared that he would no longer take proper rest and is excited forward to the upcoming cricket season.

There are many players who are there to take my position: Iyer

“It’s a great opportunity, especially after coming back from an injury to play in the IPL. After that the World Cup. These are the two biggest tournaments for an Indian cricketer to play at. We have always dreamed of being part of such an amazing time”.

“All these moments… the last four months. It has basically fuelled and propelled my mindset to keep working harder and smarter. No rest days for me at this point in time. Really looking forward to the matches which I am going to play right now,” said Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer also stated that he does not want to compare himself to others because Indian cricket is so competitive. The right-hander stated that his recent performances have been “amazing,” but added that he intends to play exceeding his ability. Iyer ended by saying that he is willing to go to whatever length to get a position on the Indian team.

“It’s you vs you always. And I don’t compare myself to others. Obviously, there are many players who are there to take my position and there is so much competition but if I look at my performance in the last few years, it has been awesome”.

“I just want to keep going beyond my abilities. Every day I am looking to become the best version of myself. I will do anything to be in the team and make sure my team wins. That’s my mindset at this point of time,” concluded Shreyas Iyer.
