IPL 2021: What will BCCI do next?
All the players were under the bio-bubble and there is a high risk that other’s might also test positive for COVID-19 soon. If this continues then BCCI will be forced to suspend the tournament until further notice. Last week, 3 Australian players pulled out of the tournament and returned to their respective country. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also left the Delhi Capitals’ squad to support his family member, who was tested positive for COVID-19.
BCCI were firm about their intention to continue with the league but looking at the current scenarios they might have to change their decision. Players will be demotivated to continue in the cash-rich league if it will directly put their lives at risk. BCCI is expected to make a decision soon as thousands of netizens are demanding the tournament to be shelved for now. The second wave of the COVID-19 has hit India very harshly. Every day thousands of people are being tested positive and India is marking hundreds of deaths with each proceeding day. However, IPL remains the only source of entertainment for the millions of fans who are locked inside their houses.
