Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been handed a four-match ban following his peculiar antics in the ongoing Dhaka T20 league. The No.1 all-rounder in the world lost his temper twice while playing for Mohammaden Sporting Club against Abahani limited. In the first instance, the 35-year-old kicked the stumps when an LBW appeal was dismissed by the match umpire. Later, he was seen throwing the stumps when the match got called off due to rain. Hasan’s antics soon became the talking point in social media as the veteran was highly criticised for his unprofessional act.

Shakib Al Hasan apologises for his shenanigans
Shakib was soon banned for 4 games for his disrespectful behaviour in the gentlemen’s game. Nevertheless, Shakib realised his mistake as he took his Facebook account to issue a public apology. “Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens, unfortunately. I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won’t be repeating this in the future. Thanks and love you all ❤️ SAH”, wrote Shakib.
Bangladeshis and their history with misconducts
However, this is not the first time Hasan has found himself in the news for the wrong reasons. In 2019, he was banned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board after he accepted three corruption charges on himself. However, he soon made his comeback in Bangladesh cricket after serving a ban of one year. In 2020, he was criticized and threatened by Bangladeshi fans for attending a Durga Pooja in India. Shakib had to publicly apologize for his visit to India. In 2021, he went in loggerheads with the BCB when he decided to play franchise cricket over appearing for his country.
Interestingly, Shakib Al Hasan is not the only Bangladeshi cricketer who has lost his temper during a game of cricket. Bangladeshi players have seldom made the headlines for their aggressive behaviour on and off the field. In 2020, Bangladeshi wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim was seen throwing a punch on his teammate Nasum Ahmed in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup match. While Sabbir Rahman is another Bangladeshi who is known for his misbehavioural act in-field.
MSC confirms Shakib’s ban
The umpires and the cricket committee of Dhaka have issued a public notice while announcing the ban over Shakib Al Hasan. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is yet to release any statement. Team Mohammedan Sporting Club has confirmed the four-match ban on Shakib.
