Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan recently released a public apology for attending a Hindu-based ceremony in India. As per reports, the cricketer was forced to apologize to the Muslim community for his decision to attend a Hindu pooja in Kolkata by various Islamic preachers. Shakib Al Hasan received tons of death threats from people of Islamist communities after attending the program in India.

Shakib Al Hasan Apologizes for Attending Durga Pooja
Shakib Al Hasan reportedly attended the 59th Shyama Puja of “Amra Shobai Club” at Kankurgachi in East Kolkata. Bangladesh, which is a Muslim-dominated country, have recently been very vocal about issues related to the Muslim community. People of Bangladesh highly participated in the “anti-France” rally following the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

Bangladesh-based Islamic preachers stated that Muslims should not attend religious etiquettes of other religions. A Bangladesh-based man sent personal threats to Shakib Al Hasan via Facebook live for “hurting his religious sentiment”. A man, who goes by the name Mohsin Talukder, threatened to “cut Shakib to pieces with a chopper for blasphemy”. Mohsin Talukder was later arrested in Sunamganj on Tuesday.

“I was on the stage for barely two minutes. People are talking about this and thought I inaugurated it,” said Shakib Al Hasan on Monday. “I did not do this and being a conscious Muslim I would not do this. But, maybe, I should not have gone there. I am sorry for this and apologize,” he added. “As a practicing Muslim, I always try to follow religious customs. Please forgive me if I have done anything wrong,”.

Shakib Al Hasan was handed a one-year ban last year after the former Bangladeshi skipper was found guilty of failing to report corrupt approaches to the board. The star recently got free from his ban. However, the 33-year-old cricketer has yet again found himself in between of unnecessary controversy for his recent visit to India.
