South Africa looked at themselves in difficulty after being called in to bat first when Moeen Ali dismissed opening batsman Reeza Hendricks. But the RSA hit the ground running after that, going on to win by a score of 189-2. They were cautious in the powerplay, amassing 40 runs, but then put on the accelerator after gaining a feel for the circumstances and opposition bowling. Quinton de Kock seemed threatening.

Adil Rashid took his wicket after the lefty struck 34 off 27. He also contributed to a useful 71-run partnership with Rassie van der Dussen. RVD and Aiden Markram then put up 103 runs for the 3rd wicket. Markram was at his most aggressive, scoring 52 off 25 balls. Van Der Dussen kept within striking range on 94 off 60 with five 4’s and six 6’s.

The Brits got off to a quick start, with Jason Roy and Jos Buttler putting up 38 for the first wicket. Roy made a 15 off 20 before being forced to retire injured due to a problem with his hamstring. Buttler, on the other hand, appeared scary. He scored 26 off 15 before being pinned by Anrich Nortje. The Three Lions scored 59 runs on the powerplay and appeared to be in control of the run-chase.

Tabraiz Shami disqualified Moeen Ali on 37. Shamsi also returned Jonny Bairstow, who was unable to begin. Dawid Malan dropped his wicket on 33. Liam Livingstone hammered 3 sixes against Kagiso Rabada to put England ahead. Dwaine Pretorius bagged him on 28. Kagiso Rabada’s hat-trick then prevented England from winning.
