Rohit’s rise in ODIs as an opener par excellence coincided with Gambhir’s decline in career. Gambhir and Virender Sehwag’s old guard has lost their Team India spots. Now the players Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have taken over and are still going high.
In 2019, Rohit Sharma had a huge season, scoring top in the England ICC World Cup, and slamming the building record for five centuries. In fact, he is the only international cricketer, who hit three double centuries in ODIs with the highest score in this format.
The Duo Has Squared Up Against Each Other Several Times In The IPL As Captains:
He is currently the vice-captain of the Indian team in ODI and T20I teams and has tasted success whenever he stood beside the leader of the team, Virat Kohli.
Both Rohit and Virat are fighting for the title of the best ODI batsman, while Kohli’s consistency has brought him ahead in the competition.
In 2019, the opener, who had a stop-start career in Test cricket, succeeded in breathing new life into his red-ball career as he enjoyed success when opening the innings. Gambhir and Rohit were part of the team that won the 2007 ICC WT20 and also the 2008 Australian landmark CB series.
In the Indian Premier League, the pair have squared with each other many times as captains of Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.
