Steffan Jones Returns Rajasthan Royals As Fast Bowling Coach

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have signed Steffan Jones as their fast bowling coach before the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). The 48-year-old will be in charge of offering leadership and training to all bowlers on the RR outfit. The franchise announced the decision in a press release on March 4. Jones, who has played for various county teams in England, will train with the team throughout their pre-season session, which will be held from March 7 and 10 at their training facility in Nagpur. Following training, the veteran speedster will continue with the team for the duration of the IPL season.

The IPL’s Rajasthan Royals team enter the competition with a strong pace assault that includes star pace bowler Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Navdeep Saini, Obed McCoy, Nathan Coulter-Nile, as well as Kuldeep Sen, amongst many others. Yuzvendra Chahal, a skilled leg spinner, and KC Cariappa, a youngster, would manage the spin unit.

However, Royals’ director Kumar Sangakara voiced his delight at the return of the 48-year-old bowler. According to Sangakara, Jones knows the franchise’s history completely and has previously been praised by both players and staff.

“Steffan has been closely associated with the franchise over the past few years so he understands the culture perfectly, and brings with him a very able coaching style, which has been appreciated by both players and management in the past,” Sangakkara said.

“We are delighted to welcome him back to the franchise in his new role, wherein he will be working with our bowlers and providing support to them throughout the year, and we’re confident his expertise can guide us to newer heights,” he added.
