Predicting India’s Test XI In 2025

The Indian Test team has come a long way since January 2015. India was ranked 7th in the world. From there, India has steadily maintained their spot at the top. They are arguably the best travelling side currently. India has twice won a series in West Indies, Australia, and Sri Lanka. They currently lead the series in England. The team is set to undergo a transition with few of its veterans likely to be phased out. Here is this article we are Predicting India’s Test XI In 2025.

We look at what India’s Test playing XI might look like in 2025:

Openers: Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul

For someone who has such exceptional numbers, it is a surprise that Prithvi Shaw is not part of India’s Test squad. He likes to take attack to the opposition. To partner with him at the top, KL Rahul is a natural choice. He has scored centuries in England, Australia, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. They would make for a great opening pair.

Middle-order: Yash Dhull, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant

It is an early bet but Yash Dhull looks like someone who has it in him to occupy the number 3 spot. He has made a great start to his domestic career. He will be an ideal number 3 who can combine caution with aggression. If Shreyas Iyer can counter the short ball, he can also be in the running for the number 3 spot.

Shubman Gill gives an impression of a cricketer who has played international cricket for 10 years. He can be the perfect number 4. Rishabh Pant has already provided enough evidence of what he can do batting at number 5.

Lower middle-order: Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja/Axar Patel

Washington Sundar can be the perfect batting allrounder who can slot in at number 6. It will give the team an option to field 6 bowlers on any given day. Ravindra Jadeja being the athlete he is will be looking to carry on till 2027. Axar Patel is a like-to-like replacement for Jadeja. His batting is a work in progress and he sure needs to up his game in that department.

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Umran Malik

If India field two spinners in their top 7, they can almost always field four pacers overseas. They could look to include a spinner in home conditions. Kuldeep Yadav could be the specialist spinner in the XI. Jasprit Bumrah will continue to lead the pace attack.

Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Umran Malik, and Mohsin Khan are the frontrunners to partner with Bumrah at this stage. Siraj and Krishna will arguably form a lethal trio with Bumrah. Umran Malik if groomed well, will be the X-factor in the playing XI.

The eventual prediction:

Despite this being a team that is predicted to come together in 2025, the players mentioned look every bit ready. It is owing to India’s strong domestic structure that a team in waiting looks like a team ready to beat anyone in the world!
