After the last ruler of the former Patiala province, late Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, who played a test match for India in 1934, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) agreed to name his new stadium in Mullanpur. He was the father of Amarinder Singh, chief minister of Punjab.

This was decided in a meeting attended by PCA chairman Rajinder Gupta and Secretary Puneet Bali apart from other association office-bearers. “The proposal was suggested and accepted by the President of the PCA,” Bali said.

Additionally, the PCA has started the process of renovating the new IS Bindra Stadium to make it an international cricket academy. The upgraded facilities include parks, swimming pools, gyms, and other amenities, Bali said.

Former PCA president IS Bindra had conceptualized the 38.2-acre stadium in Mullanpur. The PCA has agreed to raise the number of cricketers to be given contracts from 30 to 40, including 10 women players, among other agendas passed in the apex council meeting.

Bali said one of the meeting ‘s key agendas was on authorizing the scheme for the scholarship. “A proposal to implement the district development scheme was also accepted. According to this, eighteen district associations in Punjab will first send a development agenda, and the PCA inspection committee will review the plan,” he said.

It was also agreed to increase the grant to Districts Minor and Major. “The office staff and ground staff working during the pandemic will get a bonus of Rs 40,000,” he said.
