A Series of Emotions Floated in the hearts of all Indian Cricket Fans as on Independence Day, at 7:29 pm (we all know his obsession with number 7), the biggest superstar captain and the legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from International Cricket leaving all his fans numb and emotional.
While many critics and fans were talking about it, when it came to being, the fact that MS Dhoni will no longer be seen in the ‘Blue Jersey’, it hurt like anything. It left all with teary eyes and what was more emotional was his Instagram post through which he announced his retirement. He compiled a video of his best and not-so-best moments with song ‘Mai Pal do Pal ka Shayar hu’, showing off his sentimental side we have never seen before.
We did not have any retirement ceremony, farewell game, or a speech from the man who guided India to two of its three World Cup victories. Dhoni, who is hailed as one of the best finishers in the history of the sport, finished with 4,876 Test runs, 10,773 ODI runs, 1617 ODI runs, and a plethora of individual and team accolades.
In his 350 ODI matches, Dhoni’s top score was 183 against Sri Lanka. He is still the only captain to have captured each of the major ICC trophies (50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy). His stint with IPL Team Chennai Super Kings continues.
Dhoni, often known as “Captain Cool,” is renowned for his composure and superb leadership on the field. His propensity for choosing reviews has led many to refer to the Decision Review System (DRS) as the “Dhoni Review System.” He established himself as one of the best wicketkeepers in the world over time. India made multiple breakthroughs thanks to his dexterity behind the stumps.
There is no end to what MSD has given the country in terms of achievements. All we can do is immersed ourselves in the memory of those moments. There were times when you were on the edge of your seats and had lost all hopes for India to win the match but Dhoni pulled the team out of the situation and went on to win with few deliveries to spare. This is not a story of a day or two, it was a story of many days, a journey from nowhere to world champions and we all know what role Dhoni had in the making of it.
From being the most tactical person on the field to being the most humble off it. Dhoni grew into his fans like no other. Even after 2 years of his retirement, you know you can sell out a stadium just with the mention of him. He is Thala, the Captain Cool, and such is his might that he may not have grand farewell or celebrations but a place in the heart of his fans for years to come.
