Afghanistan Named Noor-ul-Haq Malikzai As Chief Selector

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB)  has selected veteran Afghanistan middle-order hitter Noor-ul-Haq Malikzai as the national team’s chief selector. Malikzai has been working as an interim selector for the last 3 months following Asadullah Khan departed, and he has done a great job so far. Here we have discussed Noor-ul-Haq Malikzai named as a chief selector for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s junior team performed admirably at the U19 World Cup 2022, and a wealth of fresh talents has emerged from the ranks. Malikzai represented Afghanistan in 2 ODIs in 2010 and the ICC U19 WC in 2010 and 2012, accordingly.

He has also appeared in 18 First-Class, 13 List-A, and 8 T20 Internationals. Despite being only 29 years old, he retired from the sport 3 years ago in 2019. He made his first appearance on the forefront following an outstanding performance in the U19 WC Qualifiers when he averaged 54 in seven games.

Malikzai has desired to identify the appropriate talents and provide them with a long list of chances. He went on to say that long-term objectives would also need to be focused on in order to progress the nation forward with respect to performance.

“We have a busy 2022, and as a team we will be working on to not only address our short-term needs but also achieve our long-term goals. We have enormous talent in the country and it is important that they are provided with proper opportunities,” Malikzai.

The ACB’s  CEO, Naseeb, praised Malikzai’s work as acting head selector, noting that the picks for the Netherlands & Bangladesh series were excellent. He also noted how talented the U19 Asia Cup and U19 World Cup squads are, and he praised Malikzai for his decisions.

“Malikzai has had quite an impressive tenure as the acting chief selector and has shown great spirit during the selection of the teams for the U19 Asia Cup and U19 World Cup as well as for our recent squad selections for the Netherlands and Bangladesh series. I would like to congratulate him and wish him all the very best for the future,” Naseeb Khan, ACB CEO.
