It Is Kohli’s Call, There Are Few Players Who Can Lead India In Tests: Brett Lee

Former Australian iconic bowler Brett Lee believes there are several candidates to succeed Virat Kohli as India’s Test skipper. Kohli stepped down as captain following India’s 1-2 Test series loss against South Africa, and several analysts have named probable candidates for the Indian captaincy in the longer format. Rohit Sharma is the most probable contender to be named Test captain, but his fitness difficulties have impacted negatively on his prospects. There are few players who can lead India in tests.

KL Rahul, who captained India in the 2nd Test versus South Africa, did not surprise, as the squad not only lost the Test but also the following ODI series. Furthermore, he is likely to be groomed in the future, with Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant being next in order. Shane Warne, the spinning specialist, has advised India’s officials to choose Rohit as skipper and prepare Bumrah for the position in the future.

It is totally up to the Indian management: Brett Lee

Lee stated that he hasn’t been following much Indian cricket recently despite the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) and the just-finished Ashes and that he wasn’t willing to speak on Kohli’s unexpected move. He went on to say that India has a lot of possibilities for the next Test skipper and that 4-5 candidates are ready for the post right now.

“It is totally Virat Kohli’s call. I have been focused on the Big Bash League back home and obviously, the Ashes. I cannot say much about it, it is totally up to Virat Kohli. I think there are four-five players who can lead India in Tests right only, only time will tell,” Lee said in an Interaction.

“It is totally up to the Indian management, there are four-five players who can do the job,” he added

Lee is among the game’s fastest bowlers, and he has a stellar record across all forms of the sport. He succeeded with 310 wickets in 76 Tests and 380 wickets in 221 One-Day Internationals for Australia and was a component of the famed bowling combination with Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie.
