IPL Tournament – Would Be Either Postponed Or Held In Empty Stadiums

There Will Be No Sale Of IPL Tickets:

Coronavirus has been ranking up headlines for all the reasons in the past month. The virus has already killed more than 4200 people, and there have been at least 1,18,000 cases worldwide. While more than 65,000 people have recovered.

In India, more than 60 cases have been confirmed across the country. The Union Ministry of Health upholding all the foreign visas, the viability of staging the Indian Premier League (IPL) at this point has taken a significant hit.

Out of the 60 positive cases reported in the country, seven of them are from Maharastra. In very close monitoring of the situation, Maharastra health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Wednesday, revealed that “The state government has two options. Either postpone the tournament or conducting it in empty stadiums. One thing is sure that there will be no sale of tickets”.

“The state government recently discussed the issue of the IPL following which the two options mentioned above concurred. After discussion, we have come to two options: either to postpone matches or to have matches without selling tickets,” Tope revealed. He said that the matches would be broadcasted to avoid large public gatherings.

On March 14, The IPL Governing Council Set to Meet:

The IPL governing council will meet on March 14 to discuss whether to hold the games inside an empty stadium or postpone the tournament together. There is also an option of allowing B-sport visas to foreign players.

The issue about the availability of the foreign players has plentiful after the Ministry of Health suspended the visas of foreigners till April 15, 2020. “All existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/International Organizations, employment, project visas, stand suspended till April 15, 2020. This will come into effect from 1200 GMT on March 13, 2020, at the port of departure,” Union Ministry of Health said in a report.

The 13th edition of the IPL has scheduled to take place on March 29, with last year’s champions Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
