Why Sanju Samson is Not Getting a Big Chance?
Sanju Samson is a household name in the Indian Premier League for a couple of seasons now. The 26-year-old right-handed batsman from Kerela is known for his explosive hitting skills. He is also a handy wicketkeeper. His supreme quality as a batsman earned him Rajasthan Royal’s captaincy armband in this year’s VIVO IPL. Have you ever wondered why Sanju Samson is not getting a big chance?
IPL 2021: Sanju Samson’s problem with Consistency
Sanju Samson started off his stint as RR’s captain in a fashionable manner where he went on to score 119 runs in their chase of 222 runs against Punjab. Sanju Samson just fell short of 4 runs to carry his side towards a historic win. However, he earned lots of praise for his thrashing knock.
However, since that, it has been a flop show by Samson in the following two games. He managed to score only 4 and 1 run in RR’s clash against Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.
Inconsistency has been the biggest problem with Sanju Samson over the years. He either hits a huge 80 or gets out for a modest 9, there is nothing in between. Sanju Samson is a great batsman but not a trusted one. And that is the only reason behind him missing from India’s T20I squad.
Sanju Samson has played a total of 110 IPL games and has only scored a total of 2708 runs with an average of 28.20. He made his IPL debut in 2013 where he scored 206 runs in 11 games. His best season came in 2018 where he scored 441 runs in 15 games with an average of 31.50.
For a batsman of Sanju’s calibre, he is yet to enjoy a season with 500+ total or even be considered for Orange cap. Sanju Samson needs to concentrate on being consistent. A 30+ score every now and then instead of rushed 10s will actually help his cause.
