IPL 2020: Why All Eight Franchises Are Unhappy With The BCCI?

The BCCI Has Sent A Circular to IPL Franchises On Prize Money:

Indian Cricket Board BCCI has decided to reduce the prize amount by 50%. This decision caused a storm in all franchises. They were unhappy about the decision of the BCCI. Now, the winner of IPL 2020 will get ten crore rupees.

In the 2019 season, the winners Mumbai Indians got Rs 20 crore. The runners-up Chennai Super Kings got Rs 12.5 crore after losing to Mumbai Indians by one run in finals. Now the amount has been halved.

In previous seasons the prize money stays at Rs 50 crore, which has distributed among all the top four teams. Now it has reduced from Rs 50 crore to Rs 25 crore. The BCCI has increased the amounts accepted by the state associations for accomodating the match to INR 1 crore, with different franchises and BCCI providing Rs. 50 lakh each.

IPL Franchises Were Not Happy:

“We are unhappy that the playoff standing fund has halved. We have not even consulted. The franchises have been discussing it informally and will soon have a formal meeting to discuss the issue,” a South India franchise was quoted. The teams which have lost matches in semi-finals will get Rs 4.30 crores each decreased from Rs 6.25 crore.

“It is a big hit. We are discussing it internally as well as with other teams. All the teams are meeting soon to discuss it,” said another franchise. It remains to see that what action the franchises will take as BCCI decided to cut costs saying that the franchises are all healthy, and they have different ways of income. So according to that, the decision on prize money has taken.

The IPL 2020 is beginning in 24 days from March 29, with last year champions Mumbai Indians against three-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
