Things do not seem to be going well for the Indian Premier League (IPL) season ahead. IPL 2020 is scheduled to start with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings taking in the opening game of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 29th March this year.
The outbreak of Coronavirus has played a spoilsport in the smooth running of the world’s largest T20 league.
The coronavirus has influenced the sporting spectrum a lot, and sports are being played behind closed doors around the world to avoid the spread of the deadly virus. Now the Indian Premier League is aiming to take the same path as well.
Corona Threat Forces Maharashtra Government to Ban IPL Ticket Sales
Earlier this week, in view of the spread of coronavirus, the Karnataka government sought central government advice on whether matches should be conducted in Bengaluru or not.
“I have written to the Centre that IPL matches are scheduled to take place in Karnataka. In the letter, we have also stated that neighboring Maharashtra has already taken the decision in this regard. We await instructions from the Centre on what action has to be taken” said Minister of Medical Education Dr. K Sudhakar.
While, Additional Chief Secretary Javed Akhtar said, “Before we make a final call we must take into account the decision taken by the Maharashtra Government.”
BCCI Sticks With The Schedule Of IPL
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had said earlier that all precautionary measures will be taken so that players and spectators will not get infected with the virus, adding that a medical team is looking into more details.
‘IPL is very much on. Everywhere, the tournaments are going on. England is already in Sri Lanka. South Africa is here. There are no issues,’ Ganguly had said.
Every precaution would be taken by the medical board of the BCCI to ensure the safety of the players and the audience in the upcoming IPL matched, said Sourav Ganguly.
