Indian Players Who May Retire Post ODI WC 2023

The ODI World Cup 2023 might prove to be a final stop for many legendary ODI careers. There are many cricketers who are already looking at the mega event as their swansong. The World Cup scheduled to be held in the subcontinent in 2023 might see plenty of retirements. Prominent ODI cricketers will be looking to call it a day post this World Cup.

We look at 5 Indian players who may retire from ODIs post the ODI World Cup in 2023:

#5 Shikhar Dhawan

He is arguably one of the finest Indian ODI openers of all time. Shikhar Dhawan is one of the most underrated ODI greats. He made his debut in the format in 2010. But it wasn’t until 2013 that he got the deserved recognition.

He announced himself on the world stage in Champions Trophy in 2013. There has been no looking back for the southpaw ever since. He has scored 6493 ODI runs in 155 ODIs at an average of 45.4 with a strike rate of 92.5. The 36-year-old veteran will be targeting this World Cup to call it quits on his ODI career.

#4 Ravindra Jadeja

He is one of the most valuable players for India in Tests. Ravindra Jadeja’s ODI career got a second wind in Asia Cup in 2018. He was an integral member of India’s squad in the 2019 ODI World Cup. The 33-year-old Jadeja has repeatedly shown his worth in the format. It looks quite likely that the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023 might be his last in this format.

#3 Hardik Pandya

He made his ODI Debut in 2016. Hardik Pandya quickly went on to become one of the most indispensable members of the side. Pandya showed his worth in the Champions Trophy in 2017. His six-hitting prowess was there for everyone to see. He self-admittedly had an underwhelming World Cup in 2019. Pandya will be keen to make amends in the next ODI World Cup in 2023. The injury-prone might look to end the ODI career on a high.

#2 Virat Kohli

He is the greatest ODI batsman of this generation. Nobody averages and strikes better than Kohli in ODIs for batsmen who have scored more than 10,000 ODI runs. Kohli is currently going through a lean patch across all formats.

If there is any format wherein Kohli can regain the form it is the ODIs. It was through the ODIs that Kohli established himself as the world’s premier batsman. He will look to sign off on a winning note post the ODI World Cup in 2023.

#1 Rohit Sharma

He along with Sachin Tendulkar are two of India’s best ODI openers. Rohit Sharma came into his own when he was asked to open in 2013. He has gone from strength to strength since then. Sharma is the only batsman with 3 double-centuries in the format. He is currently the full-time captain and is expected to lead the side in the ODI World Cup in 2023. It might be the global stage where he is expected to bid adieu to the format.
