The world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, India has been renamed from Motera stadium to Narendra Modi Stadium before the inaugural Test match between India and England. Indian President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the historic stadium which boasts the capacity of hosting around 1,10,000 spectators.

India’s Home Minister Amit Shah was also present during the inauguration of the new stadium. Amit Shah, while speaking at the launch, stated that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to build the world’s largest cricket stadium.
“As CM, he used to say Gujaratis must also progress in 2 fields – sports and armed forces. He took charge of GCA at my request and promoted sports here. His vision was that the world’s largest cricket stadium be built here. This 1,32,000-seater stadium will be known as Narendra Modi Stadium,” Shah said.

- Ahmedabad’s Modi Stadium will host its first international game on February 24.
- The same stadium hosted the ‘Namaste Trump’ event, exactly a year back.
- The Narendra Modi stadium complex has a total of two training grounds with 9 pitches and another 11 pitches. Each diverse in nature. Each dressing room is interconnected to two gyms and also contains a big warm-up area.
- The area has individual space for trainers, physics and coaches.
- The absence of pillars and floodlight towers gives u obstructed view of on-field action.
- An innovative drainage system that allows the action to resume within 30 minutes of heavy rains
- The 55-room clubhouse has a 3D mini theatre, gymnasium, steam and sauna, a squash court and an Olympic-size swimming pool.
