IND vs AUS: “India have been so well disciplined”- Australian Coach Justin Langer

Against all the odds, the Ajinkya Rahane-led Indians emerged victorious against the mighty Australians in their own backyard. The Virat Kohli-deficit Indian side were considered to be the second favorite at Melbourne. Nevertheless, the Indians wiped the floor with the Australians in the second Test. Almost everyone wrote off the Indian side in the four-match Test series, especially after the humiliating loss at Adelaide. However, the visitors stood their ground and went on par with Tim Paine’s side with a dominating win in the second match.

IND vs AUS: Justin Langer impressed with India’s discipline

Ajinkya Rahane carried his side from the front as he scored a quintessential ton in the first innings of the second Test at Melbourne. Team India gathered lots of praises for their ‘never back down’ attitude against the Australians. Moreso, even Australian coach Justin Langer was left impressed with India’s winning mentality and the way they fought back against the Baggy Greens.

Justin Langer, in a recent press-conference, hailed India’s discipline towards the game. “…their greatest strength over the last couple of series has been their discipline. They (India) have been so well disciplined…I have loved the last two Tests because the wickets have been a contest between bat and ball and you have got to work a bit harder and that is what Test cricket is all about,” Langer said at a virtual press conference.

According to Langer, the Indians are following a well-planned strategy against the Australian openers. “So, I think, there is the factor of the wickets that we have played on, there is certainly some seam movement, there was a little bit of swing in both those wickets. India have (has) taken a straighter line to a couple of our batters and set the fields accordingly,” he said.

Justin Langer also spoke about Ravichandran Ashwin’s fine form he displayed in the last two Tests. “And let’s not discount Ravi Ashwin, how many has he taken 380 Test wickets? The great bowlers are the ones who are hard to score against and (Jasprit) Bumrah is certainly up there at the moment, Ashwin is up there at the moment, we are aware of it,” he added.”
