Faf du Plessis Out Of ‘The Hundred’ Tournament

Former captain of South Africa, Faf du Plessis will not be competing in the Men’s Hundred this year. The legend was scheduled to play for the Northern Superchargers, but he did not heal in time from an injury he had during the 2021 Pakistan Super League 2 months ago. Faf clashed with his partner Mohammad Hasnain at the boundary while playing for the Quetta Gladiators. He was then disqualified from the competition and confined in Croatia prior to the Hundred. The cricketer’s wife, Imari Visser, voiced concern for her husband.

Du Plessis has also not played any cricket in the previous 2 months. The 37-year-old was originally ruled out of the Superchargers’ first 3 matches because he couldn’t get in fit in time.

Dane Vilas would continue to play in the Hundred as his substitute. On Friday, August 13, Faf posted on Social media that he’ll be going home and that he’ll be playing in the Caribbean Premier League in 2021, which kicks off on August 26.

“I’m really so grateful for all the support through this difficult injury and feel like I’m very close to playing again,” du Plessis was quoted as saying in an Interaction.

“Faf du Plessis will return to South Africa to continue his rehab from the concussion he suffered at the PSL earlier this year. Dane Vilas will continue as his replacement at Northern Superchargers for the remainder of the competition,” the Superchargers said in a statement.

With 7 points from as many games, the Superchargers are now 4th in the table. They defeated the Manchester Originals by 69 runs in their last encounter.

To have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs, they must beat the Birmingham Phoenix in their last group encounter. The current table-toppers are the Phoenix.

Harry Brook is the team’s highest run-scorer, with 189 runs at a strike rate of 153.65 and an average of 47.25. They’ve also had 50’s from John Simpson and David Willey. With 12 wickets at an average rating of 1.19, Adil Rashid is their highest wicket-taker.
