ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: India Enter Maiden Final After Semi-Final Versus England

INDIA enter the maiden final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2020:

It is very unfortunate for the team England that without fighting for a spot, they lose the semi-final match against India.  In Sydney, the semi-final match gets abandoned because of rain. In the final, India is going to face either defending champions Australia or South Africa.

India has qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final on account of completing high ranking on the points table.  In previous editions, India never got into the final.

This Women’s cricket team, lead by Harmanpreet Kaur is the only team that is able to win all their group matches and acquires the top position in Group A. In the opening match, India won against the hosts Australia and after that, they defeated Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.

No Reserve Day:

As per the rules of the tournament, there is no reserve day for semi-finals. That’s why, if both the semi-finals matches are washed out because of rain, we will be going to see two first-time finalists in the final.

Regarding the semi-final match, captain of England Heather Knight said that “it is really frustrating”. Also, she added that she didn’t want the end of the World Cup in this way. Perhaps it would have been good to have reserve days for the semi-final. That defeat against South Africa burdened them. They were expecting to reach the semi-finals and they did. But all the efforts were ruined by the weather. They had started to get their required momentum in previous matches, and they were fully ready for the semi-finals.

Indian Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s Statement:

Along with England Captain, Indian Captain Harmanpreet also sad because of no reserve days for the semi-finals. She said that “It is really unfortunate that a game is abandoned because of weather. But that’s the rules. Further, it would be good to substitute a day for the semi-final”.

Regarding the whole tournament, the Indian captain said that “ From the starting day, we knew that it is important to win all the matches because in case in the semi-finals, we don’t get any play, then it will be tough for us. So, all credit goes to the whole team, we wanted to win all the matches and we did it.”
